This involves removal of the nerve and vascular tissue (pulp) from the root and pulp chamber, as well as any associated decayed tooth structure. This allows the tooth to be spared from extraction. After the inside of the tooth is carefully shaped and cleaned, it is filled and sealed, awaiting a crown. Preserving the tooth root in this fashion helps avert the bone loss that often accompanies loss of the tooth root.
